MarkAble CD Wizard Tutorial (CD to Bookmarking iPod audio file).

- Step-by-step instructions, with screen shots, for MarkAble CD Wizard.

Easily, with minimum attention, converts Audio CDs to bookmarking iPod files.
-See MarkAble Preferences and Options Settings (link)
for step-by-step and screen shots to set options and settings (is post above).
-Download MarkAble $15 Shareware (Link). Free, full-function, five-day-trial version.

1.Click on Audio CD Wizard Button in MarkAble main window.

2.Click on tab 1.

3.Enter drive identifier for drive in which you will insert CD’s.

4.Click on next for Tab 2 and enter the total number of CD’s in the audiobook.

5.Click on next for Tab 3 and enter the title of the audiobook.

6.Click on next for tab 4 and enter the book author

7.Insert the first CD.

8.After inserting CD, click OK.

9.iTunes will begin importing the CD as an mp3 – which MarkAble will merge and then allow you to choose to (a.) convert to AAC and rename file extension from m4a to m4b or, (b.) make the mp3 bookmark (quick). -You can follow the import progress in iTunes, but do not attempt any iTunes functions while MarkAble is converting.

10.MarkAble will report status of importing the current file and overall progress with progress bars.

11.As each CD is imported, remove and replace with next CD and click OK. It may be necessary to clean smudge marks off Library CD’s. Wipe with a soft, clean cloth from center to edge. Do not rub in direction of tracks – this may scratch the CD. An inexpensive Radio Shack CD cleaner may be helpful.

12.MarkAble will inform you that all CDs are ripped.
-If you wish to delete the original ripped tracks after merge, check the square in the window above – After Merging, delete the ripped tracks.
-If you wish to change the number of resulting files, change the count in the box. Recommend keeping files under 5 hours and 300 MB.
-Click OK
13.Check the Conversion Method you want -- Full, Quick, Podcast. Only Full Convert will show audiobook in iPod Audiobooks, play faster, or skip in main menu shuffle. It may take iTunes as much as 45 minutes to convert a 5 hour file from mp3 to AAC and rename its extension m4b. MarkAble controls all these functions.

Pocast conversion files show the Artist as 'Podcast' in browse mode and mp3 bookmarking sets the new bookmarking flag - each absent the features
enumerated above.

14.While iTunes is converting, the MarkAble window will show the files which are converting and progress

15. During conversion, iTunes will show the current file conversion status. That is, one file at the time.

16.MarkAble will inform you that all files and discs are ripped, merged and imported into iTunes Library. No further action will occur or is required other than to place the newly created files on your iPod. Click OK.

17.iTunes will show the new file in the library. Click on Date Added column until arrow points down and push the right hand button hard up to see the new files. Alternatively, you can search for the files by typing in the book name into the Search window at top right of iTunes window.

18.R click the new files and choose Get info, then the info tab to change the file description. My personal preference is to number the files with Book Name X_YU, where X is part number, Y is total number of Parts, and U indicates Unabridged, and A indicates Abridged. Click OK

19.Performing the renaming will make the iTunes Library look like this window. The first two files have been renamed; the third has not yet been renamed. Connect iPod and auto synch or drag and drop. If you are auto synching, uncheck any books you do not wish transferred to your iPod. (Click on Square to left of Book Name in Library before connecting iPod.)
